My story
Hi! I’m Emily and I’m the face behind the flowers here at Wild by Design. And I’m obsessed with flowers!
I’ve always had a thing for flowers. Ever since I can remember. And starting to grow my own flowers six years ago was a game changer in me realising not only just how much I loved flowers but also what I could do with them and what joy they could bring to others (and to me, let’s be honest!). The seed of Wild by Design was beginning to germinate but it took my sister’s wedding in August 2023 for that seed to really take root. After 12 months of preparation, practice and learning I flowered up Hannah ands Charles’ wedding, solo. And I LOVED it! And that was the moment I realised I wanted more than just bringing posies from the cutting patch into my home. I want to bring the joy of flowers to other couples on their wedding days too. So here I am!

My ethos
I’m inspired by natural forms and this informs my work, evident both in the name Wild by Design and my naturalistic, whimsical and slightly wild arrangements. As well as being obsessed with all things flowers I’m really passionate about wildlife and the environment and this really informs the way that I work too. I care deeply about nature and the environment that we live in and want to nurture this environment through my work and not just take away from it.
I’m also a people person! I LOVE working with people and I love making people happy! So combining flowers, nature and people seems a perfect match. My aim at Wild by Design is to create beautiful, natural, environmentally conscious and sustainable designs that light up your wedding or event. They’ll reflect you and your day because I’ll take the time to understand you and what you’re looking for. And then I’ll find the perfect stems to weave together into some special. Something just for you. Something you’ll love.
This ethos of nature, the environment and passion (for flowers, for people and for nature) flows through all of my work, informing my choices, my style and the work I take on.
My approach
As both a florist and a grower, working to the rhythm of the seasons is natural to me. I work with the seasons. In them. Alongside them. And that informs how I work, what I grow, my floral style and the floral arrangements I produce.
I work in as sustainable a way as I possibly can. That means a few things. It means working seasonally with local, British blooms and it means consciously choosing sustainable ways to work. One of the things that means is I don’t work with floral foam. Ever. But that doesn’t mean I can’t still provide you with spectacular wedding flowers! There are so many different ways of creating stunning displays with no floral foam or single-use plastic, although I’ll admit that it sometimes takes a bit of problem solving! So you can rest assured that a Wild by Design wedding or event will tread lightly on the environment as I seek to re-use and recycle as much as I can and use only foam-free mechanics that won’t harm the earth.
Working seasonally and working with British go hand in hand for me. As well as the importance of buying local and buying from other small, independent businesses, British grown flowers are special. They’re scented. They’re delicate. Their stems often twist and turn and wiggle, going in any direction except straight upwards. This means they dance in arrangements, bringing movement and life. I think that brings immense beauty and joy. And don’t we all want a little beauty and joy in our lives?!
